Must-Have Wardrobe Pieces for Summer

I have never been the type of wardrobe consultant to tell my clients what they need for each season. I always feel that it’s more important to be authentic to your own style and only utilize trends and pieces that align with the image you want for yourself. But, I understand that for many, you look to people like stylists, or wardrobe consultants for that guidance as you enter a new season. So I’ve put together a simple list of my favourite must-haves that could add value to your summer wardrobe. Happy shopping!

The Tank

The temperature increase of summer means it’s time to shed those sleeves! While you won’t be retiring any tees for the season, tanks are the perfect option for days when the temperature skyrockets. Perfect with shorts or skirts, casual or slightly more elevated, my favourite tanks right now are cotton and ribbed. I recommend starting with a neutral, whether it be grey or white so that you get the most pairings from this hard-working piece!

The Denim Skirt

This is a fun trend that I’ve embraced for spring and summer. While it makes me feel nostalgic for the early aughts and my preteen years, it’s been fun to incorporate this trend with some of my more classic pieces like a white shirt or dare I say, a ribbed tank! I’m a denim lover, so a longer denim skirt like this gives me the feeling of wearing jeans but still allows for a breeze to stay cool.

The White Sundress

A classic summer staple that never goes out of style! A white sundress always feels fresh and flowing making it the perfect piece to keep you cool on the hottest days of the year. Not only does it take the outfit guesswork out of the equation, but it is also a must-have for versatility. You can wear it casually with a pair of sneakers while running errands or elevate it with an open-toed heel for a night out with friends. The options are endless!

The Sunglasses

You may have noticed this spring while walking down the street that fun sunglasses are on many faces this season. You’ll likely be seeing bolder coloured frames and even more statement shapes including the rectangular lens. If you’re someone who wants to dip your toe into this trend, I recommend choosing a classic shape with some sort of interesting frame detail. I love these Jenny Bird cat-eye sunnies because the shape is somewhat classic but the mother-of-pearl finish feels so unique and special.

The Sandals

I love a dad sandal! You know, like the sandals your dad wore in the 90s? Yup! Those are the ones. This is a trend I tried out for the first time last summer, and initially, I wasn’t sure if I'd be able to pull it off but I have to say I’ve fallen in love because a dad sandal immediately makes an outfit feel cooler. Ironic I know! If you are similar to me and curious but not totally sure if it’s a trend for you, start with a more delicate dad sandal, one that is less bulky, or start with a neutral colour. I also recommend finding a cheaper option as this is definitely a trend and not here to stay, so you don’t want to invest too much into this kind of footwear. Here for a good time, not a long time!
