Steph’s Tips for Shopping During Sale Season Nov 13 Written By Stephanie Kinsman What do you know, it’s November again and we are approaching the biggest sale season of the year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are no longer days only marked on the calendar by our friends in the US, but a seasonal event also here in Canada! We hit the pause button on shopping until these days, in hopes that we can get the very best deals on the items we’ve been eying for ourselves and loved ones. This year, you’ll likely see these sales starting earlier than in years past, so I wanted to take a moment and share my tips for successfully shopping in a way that’s smart and kind to your wallet. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or checking all your nearest and dearest off your holiday gifting list, let’s get shopping! Think of GiftingIn my opinion, this is the perfect time to get all of your holiday shopping done. It’s early enough that if you’re shopping online it will all arrive on time and you get it done all in one fell swoop! What’s better than getting everything on your list to make your nearest and dearest feel thought of and loved, in addition to saving a little money in your pocket? Sign me up! That’s all kinds of holiday spirit! Prioritize the Coveted During sale season, if there are things I have been keeping an eye on, likely because they never go on sale or they’re more expensive, these are some of the first things I think about. Ask yourself what these pieces are for you. Is it a cashmere sweater? A great pair of sneakers from that brand you love? I have purchased many a pair of boots during a Black Friday sale and have never been disappointed, because these were shoes I needed and got a discount to boot! Ha! Make a ListI love a list! This is the perfect place to start. After you’ve considered what gifts you might need and anything you might need for yourself, make a list and a plan. Decide what you want to gift to the people on your list and do some initial online browsing to see what’s out there. That way, you can check on those items come Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Do the same thing for yourself, make a list of the things you’d be looking for so it’s easier for you come the day of the sale. Don’t Assume the PurchaseThis point might initially feel confusing to some, but the jist here is that we don’t want to shop and spend just for the sake of it, we want to be thoughtful and intentional with our purchases always. If you’re shopping for yourself, really look at the item you’re considering and ask yourself, if you had unlimited funds and this item was regular price, would you still want to buy it? It’s very easy to get caught up in ‘deals’ and ‘discounts’ and buy things because you’re saving money. We want to make sure we’re still picky even if something is cheaper than it normally would be.
