Halloween Costumes From Your Closet

When it comes to Halloween there are often two types of people, those who have been planning their costume for months with anticipation of the season, and those who panic the night of a party because they have nothing to throw a costume together. Well, today we wanted to help out our lovable procrastinators with a few costume ideas we pulled from our own closets, in hopes of inspiring last-minute decision-making. It’s time to get party ready!

Elle Woods

Pink is a staple in my wardrobe, so a pink lover like Elle Woods felt like an easy win for me when it comes to a Halloween costume. My pink pinstripe button-down dress felt like the perfect collegiate piece for Elle, colourful yet serious! For accessories, I used a combo of fun and classic. While Elle is a jovial character, and never afraid to be noticed with her fashion choices, Harvard is a serious school, so I stuck with jewelry that utilized pearls and hearts, bringing a little classic to her boldly authentic style. For shoes, purse and sunglasses I added more personality, with stud details on the shoes, beaded champagne bottles on the purse and heart-shaped sunnies, to ensure the outfit still feels very Elle Woods. To finish off the costume, I grabbed a law textbook-looking book to ensure I’m taken seriously as a law student at Harvard.

Rachel Green

I’ll admit this one was a little trickier as I don’t have a lot of Rachel’s classic outfits but luckily this blue tank dress saved the day. Layering it with a baby tee underneath, black tights, black boots and my leather jacket on top, this look is simple but effective. Luckily this character also calls for a mug so you’re set with a prop that you can drink out of until Halloween is over.

Lorelai Gilmore

It is no secret amongst our friends that I have been a Gilmore Girls fan for most of my life. I watched all the drama of our girls going from person to person when it first came out and now often have it on in the background each fall season. For this costume, I thought I would go with a classic early 2000s vibe with boot-cut denim, camisole/v-neck top combo and leather duster. I topped off the look with a red shoulder bag and of course, a mug of coffee because you know Lorelai can’t go a day without it!

Disco Queen

This is the perfect costume for anyone who doesn’t have the time but does have some sparkle in their wardrobe. I actually pulled out this ombre sequin skirt from my wardrobe and decided to try wearing it as a dress. With silver accessories and heels, I couldn’t feel more ready to dance the night away. Simply pull out a sparkly silver piece from your closet and rock it all night long. Bonus points if you have a small disco ball to carry!
