Transitioning Yourself to Spring
Yesterday on a walk I noticed one of the first signs of spring, little flowers popping up out of the lawns in my neighbourhood, and new birdsongs that could be heard in the early morning as I jaunted to my destination. It is no secret that nature has begun to bloom once again, waking not only the flora and fauna but us humans as well. Suddenly my calendar is full once again, and though I love get-togethers and plans with friends and family it feels like I’ve been awoken from a deep slumber with a rather blaring alarm clock. Today I want to share a few thoughts on how we can transition ourselves into this new season with ease and take things one step at a time as the warmer days arrive.
Clean and Declutter
It is no secret that here at AHS we love a good decluttering moment, and I think this time of year is the perfect moment to check in with yourself and your space to see where you may be able to lighten the load. Whether it’s a closet deep clean (you can use this post to help!) or transitioning your space to the new season (we’ve talked about this one too!) now is the perfect time to reflect on what is serving you in these spaces and what you can move forward from. Personally, I’ve been excitedly moving my furniture around (big surprise) to support my new phase of work and how my husband and I hope to spend our time in our home, socializing, catching up on great TV, and playing games together. So take the time to look through your things and check out the self-care section for more inspo!
Don’t Dive Head-First into Plans
When the weather warms, it is tempting to start booking all your evenings and weekends to make the most of the nicer weather. Though I love to take advantage of early patio season as much as the next person, it’s important to leave some space for yourself. Whether it’s a walk in the park with music or sitting in a coveted outdoor space at home, make some room in your calendar for yourself to enjoy this new season before you share it with everyone else.
Pace Yourself
This is one I am constantly reminding myself of. As someone who is very passionate about productivity and not so good at slowing down, I try to keep this in mind as much as I can. This time of year, whether you work full-time, part-time or something in between, is often the time when workplaces start implementing projects or rolling out events, making it feel like work can start taking over. I encourage you in these moments to take the space that you need and take things one step at a time. If you’re facing a major deadline or a huge project, know that it will get done, but it will be a lot easier if you go one step at a time.
Take Stock and Appreciate the Seeds You’ve Already Planted
Spring is a great time to reflect on how your life is going overall. Are you happy with what you’re doing? Is the process you’ve put in place to take care of yourself working? I like to ask these questions often to make sure I’m staying aligned with my goals while still taking care of my needs and responsibilities. With that in mind, it also may not be the time to start new things and instead focus on keeping up with what you’ve started already. I often get very excited at the prospect of starting major projects and then get tired when I’m trying to follow through on them. So perhaps in this moment while you’re reflecting you can take stock and appreciate all that you have accomplished thus far. Maybe you made goals to move more, create more or spend more time with those you love, and even if you’ve improved a little bit, it’s important to take the time to appreciate all that you have done since you started. Reflecting on your accomplishments actually helps you achieve more, so be proud of yourself for getting this far and I hope you can keep congratulating yourself as we head into this brighter season.
