How to Freshen Your Home for Spring

As the season shifts and we dream of warmer days it’s easy to start feeling like your interiors reflect the hibernation we’ve been in for the last several months. We love when the weather changes because it feels like a fresh start, and your home feels no different. Today I talk about all the magic in adjusting your habitat to make for a lighter and brighter spring.

Move your furniture

Nothing makes a room feel different faster than moving the furniture around. This is one of my favourite steps because it forces you to look at your three-dimensional space in a new way. To find a new placement for our furniture I often think about how we use our space, what direction we’d like our furniture to face and how light interacts with the room now that our clocks have changed. In warmer months we tend to be more social, so opening up the living room for more seating, and allowing more tables to perch chilled beverages on cool spring evenings is a welcome idea.

Clear Your Surfaces

An homage to our “Spring Cleaning” piece earlier this year, nothing says spring to me more than clearing surfaces of unnecessary elements. Remember we’re hoping to start fresh so asking if these coffee table books are adding value is a key step in making things feel renewed and clean. I like to try a few different stylings, especially on the coffee and end tables, to see what works and makes the most sense for how we’ll be spending our time. Lately, I’ve been enjoying leaving our board games out to encourage us to take a break from our screens and engage our minds in something different. It also doesn’t hurt that they’re beautiful.

Lightening Your Textiles

Nothing says spring, like changing over your textiles, all of a sudden the thick throw blankets feel like they could be replaced by lighter breezier textures making the room feel a little less heavy. I love finding pillows and throws that do double duty like this green cushion which features velvet on the front and linen on the back, bringing the best of both worlds for changing seasons. On our couch, we’ll often do away with our fuzzy throw blankets and replace them with light cotton alternatives folded neatly on the side so the focus is on the furniture instead of the accents on top of it.

Add Something Alive

It is no secret that I love plants and being a plant mom. I’ll admit I have more of a plant pot graveyard than an ample collection after our long winter but for those who stuck around, I love to feature them as much as I can and get them the light they deserve. This dramatic Monstera is the perfect way to separate the space, adding a little life and breath into our living room.

Whatever you choose to do to freshen up your home, just remember to bring lightness and kindness to this new blossoming season.
