Ways to Add Cozy Minimalism to Your Home
As Spring begins to arrive we start to look at this season’s upcoming interior trends and I am excited to say that one of my favourites has survived the annual cull, and that is cozy minimalism. For those who may not be familiar, the concept of cozy minimalism really boils down to its nomenclature. You are going for cozy interiors like luxurious textures and intimate floorplans while keeping things minimal and simplistic. Want to bring this into your home? Here are a few ways to cozy up and catch some rest before the socially filled summer commences, let’s dive in!
Set-up
Setting up your space to maximize comfort isn’t necessarily as straightforward as it may seem. Many go for classic living room set-ups like the couch across from the TV and maybe an accent chair, and though these are classic for a reason, to make this style happen we need to maximize another element of this style, levels. Consider the furniture you have in the room and how you like to relax. Furniture that gives the energy of comfort and rest tends to be closer to the ground, so focus on including those pieces first. Once in, start to play with how you can invite the eye between your seating arrangement and the floor, for example here I’ve included a bench to provide variation and a step stool that can be used for a coffee whether you’re sitting on the floor or the couch alike. I’ve also included three different levels of tables as our “coffee table” to make things feel even more relaxed. Additionally, it’s important to try and leave some extra floor space in this set-up to encourage floor seating and provide another spot where someone can stretch out.
Texture
Texture is everything when it comes to cozy minimalism. Think fluffy blankets, lots of pillows and adding them everywhere you can, whether it be a flat surface or even the floor. You can also focus on adding elements with different finishes including wood and upholstery. I love differing wood finishes paired together as it gives a feeling of layering without being too busy. When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with adding another pillow and blanket into your space.
Colouration
Because minimalism is a key element of this trend it is important to keep your colour palette neutral and relaxing. I of course live in a world of green and earth tones so this is easy to do, but if you have a more vivid colour combination perhaps switching out the bright blue for a navy, or the loud red for a soft pink will help things feel a little more restful.
Plants
Of course, we can’t forget the most important element in any calming style, plants! Adding greenery to your space is always a win and so needed to make a home feel fresh, comforting and restful. It is no secret that bringing nature indoors can improve your mood and health so grab your favourite plants and make your space a cozy haven for the new budding season.
