5 Unexpected Ways to Add Colour to Your Home

It is no secret that colour is having a moment right now, and with the beginning of spring coming to Toronto, it’s no surprise that everyone is trying to brighten up their space with new, fresh hues. Though I wish I could completely re-style my home for every season, instead, like most, I need to find simple, affordable and unexpected ways to bring Spring into our space. Today I want to share some unique ways I’ll be implementing colour into our home without breaking the bank.

Change Your Art

It sounds so simple but is often overlooked when people want to change things up in their space. Unlike other elements in a room, art (unless the focal point) can often fade into the background and be forgotten. This season let’s break that tradition and focus on adding art into our space that is vibrant and playful. This piece, I painted a few years ago and I still love it today, as it reminds me of healing times and greener pastures.

Add Unexpected Accents

Although leaning art has ridden waves in the trend sphere, I always love how effortless and playful it is to have some art on the floor. These pieces mean a lot to my husband and me, and though we don’t have a wall to put them on at the moment, we can still appreciate the fun colours and dried florals just the same without having to hide them away in storage.

Pillow Party

Surprise, I love throw pillows, and what better way to brighten up your space this season than with a few fresh styles? There are an infinite number of textures and colours to choose from so take your time to decide what direction you want to go in for your room’s palette. Knowing that pillow inserts are expensive, to save some money, I often switch the covers instead of buying new ones, making sure I never get tired of my selection. Win-win!

Bring the Outside In

Of course, we can’t talk about spring and colour without mentioning flowers. Though we don’t quite have everything in bloom just yet, we can still find cuts of beautiful bouquets, both expensive and not, to appreciate this new season. I encourage you to pull out your most playful vase and have fun. It is about bringing in colour after all!

Play with Light

Probably the most unexpected of all, but playing with light can make such a difference in your space. A few years back I was gifted a sunset lamp that I have finally had a chance to add to our living room and I’m here to say it has added so much life and warmth to our space. Especially on grey days and evenings, this lamp brings a warm glow that we put on our ceiling to make our space feel a little brighter.
