Nicole’s Bedroom Refresh May 2 Written By Nicole Campbell When the weather warms and the days get longer, I start to see my home change with the light. All of a sudden certain rooms are darker and others brighter, changing how I see that particular space. Our bedroom is no different. Brighter in the summer, we thought it was time to re-shuffle our bedroom belongings and make the space feel fresh, matching that warm-weather mood. In our home we try very hard to keep the bedroom a place of rest, doing our best to keep other activities like work and socializing out of the space, keeping it a place focused solely on recharging. Here are a few of the steps we took to make sure our bedroom feels refreshed and rejuvenated for the months of rest ahead. Moving the furnitureAn obvious but essential step in making any room feel like new. Especially in bedrooms I like to start with the biggest and most complicated furniture so we can ensure everything will fit in its new spot. Our bedroom is not very large so I often move most items out of the space before shifting things around. Our bedroom is also an odd shape, so we have to get a little creative and flexible about thresholds and immovable objects, like how wide the doorway needs to be, or the fact that we have a radiator in our room. Once we’ve decided where things will go, we shuffle things together and adjust our major pieces so they are in the right spot. The biggest challenge in our bedroom is that we have a wall-mounted desk we use as a vanity/extra workspace for WFH calls and it requires studs to be put up safely which plays a definite role in placement. It can often take a bit of trial and error to find the right spot for your furniture so having a sense of play is essential. Deciding on smaller pieces Doing a bedroom refresh is a great opportunity to ask what pieces are working and what aren’t. One of the biggest dreams my husband has asked to come true is having his own bedside table. Though this may not seem like a big deal, this is often difficult to accomplish when you live in a small space. With this as a priority in moving items around the room, I also wanted to consider whether we have the pieces we need to make this vision come to life or if we would need to invest and explore other options. Luckily, an old angled coffee table fits the bill but asking if things are doing what you need them to in any room styling is a must. Placing with care How to style your room is always up to interpretation, but placement plays a key role in this process. We opted to keep our floor-length mirror in our bedroom but kept it on an angle making the room look larger. We also placed the small dresser parallel to the door to keep a streamlined look, placing our large Monstera plant on top for a bit of greenery and drama. I knew I wanted the space to still feel simple and not overcrowded so keeping the styling light keeps the aesthetic and ensures it’s easy to clean. Styling with your experiences Though I love minimalism, I know nothing is better than a space that feels warm with personal effects and memories. I’ve included small trinkets from meaningful trips and gifts from loved ones to help the space feel like ours. Though having a Pinterest-worthy space is always something magical to aspire to, it’s important to remember that this is your home, and can show your personality too. Want more interior inspiration?
