Our Favourite Ways to Bring Scent Indoors

After our long winter, we see the melting snow give way to soft earth and sprigs of greenery. The air outside is crisp and fresh, alluding to warmer days on the horizon filled with breezes and floral scents. There is nothing more lovely than the smell of spring once it finally arrives and this year is no different. In our homes, we often focus on the visual, the texture, and even the sound of silence but often neglect one of the most potent senses that makes a home feel inviting…The scent! This time of year I (like many other folks in my community) am often trying to replicate the fresh and intoxicating scent of spring in my own home, attempting to capture this beautiful bouquet. So today we’re sharing our favourite ways to ensure your home always smells great, no matter the time of year.

Candles

We’re big candle enthusiasts at AHS, whether they’re poured, tapers or tea lights we love to take the time to light and bask in the warm glow. Not only do they bring a moody ambiance to your space, but they also add a dimension of scent that can set the vibe of your space. I love to get a new candle when I plan to have company over, especially one of the floral variety. There’s nothing like taking the time to tidy your space and finishing your efforts by lighting a new candle, filling your home with a scent your loved ones will also enjoy. It shows the extra care you have taken to make sure your home is as cozy and comfortable as possible.

Sprays

If candles aren’t for you, sprays are a wonderful alternative that creates an instant change of scent in your home. I often go this route when a room’s air feels stale and uninviting. Suddenly with a few spritzes, the space feels revived and refreshed. I recommend choosing more natural scents such as citrus or chamomile, which act as an unobtrusive addition to your home’s air, unlike some sprays that completely change the scent of the room. People (and pets) can be very sensitive to fragrance, so less is more when it comes to the scent you choose. Room sprays are like perfume, you don’t want it to overpower, only linger for a moment like a memory.

Diffusers

Diffusers are such a lovely addition to the home, especially in warmer months when lighting a candle seems like a bad decision and will only make your home hotter. Letting oils dissipate in the air adds a light scent to your home without taking over the space, and also helps with air circulation, avoiding any stale smells. I love diffusers to support my work day. Enjoying a scent for a couple of hours increases my productivity and creates a more calming working experience. I recommend choosing scents that align with focus or calm to ensure it supports what you’re hoping to accomplish during your work day, leaving you refreshed and reminded of a light spring breeze.
