New Season, New Knitwear

With the sun shining and the smell of fresh grass on the horizon, we find ourselves in a time of transition, patiently waiting for the promise of Spring and the (hopefully) warmer weather that comes with it. While we’re always relieved to have made it through a cold winter, dressing for weather inconsistencies that accompany a change in season can be a challenge. We love spring, but let’s be honest, the frequent shifts in weather patterns definitely keep us on our toes. With chillier mornings and sunshine-filled afternoons, you want to look for pieces that bring ease to dressing during these days of erratic weather. That’s where transitional knits come in! Today I’ll be sharing what to look for in knits to keep you comfortable no matter what that trusty weather report predicts this Spring.

Tappered silhouettes

With the change in the weather, you’ll want to begin to put away your bulkier sweaters, saying goodbye to them until next winter. Instead of our beloved chunky or oversized sweaters, I recommend gravitating to slimmer silhouetted knits, that provide more structure and shape to your look. They’ll be more comfortable to wear with layers in the morning or on their own later in the afternoon, looking elegant & effortless no matter the weather.

Keep it light

Thinking about the kind of yarn that makes up your beautiful knits this time of year is key. This is important for two reasons, one being that a lighter cotton yarn with keep you comfortable even in the swell of a small afternoon heatwave. And two, focusing on cotton, rather than a wool knit will give a more current vibe to your look. Heavier knits are associated with winter months, so progressing onward to lighter knits tells the world your look is accurately aligned with the season.

Layers are your friend

The key to transitional dressing is always layers, so there should be no surprise here that it’s something you’ll want to consider with Spring knitwear. The Cardigan should be your best friend this time of year. It truly is the MVP of any wardrobe, with its ability to provide an extra layer of comfort and make an elevated addition to any look. Wear it on it’s own buttoned up, layered over a favourite blouse or t-shirt or throw it over your shoulders in case there’s a shift in the temperature.
