1 Dress 3 Ways

If you’ve been following along here at AHS, you’ve probably noticed that Nicole and I value versatility when it comes to both style and interiors. Shocking, I know. With the rush of summer heat quickly emerging from the cool spring air, we’ll soon pull out our favourite sun dresses to beat the heat and feel put together for the months ahead. As a quick, easy, seasonal staple I thought it important to share some inspiration for how you can get the most out of your favourite sun dress while keeping your looks fresh and effortless.

Casual

One of my favourite ways to bring a more casual feel to a dress is by layering it with something as simple as a white tee. Adding an element of surprise through juxtaposition keeps a spaghetti strap dress looking comfortable yet polished. I’ve finished this casual look with a denim jacket, an Ela Handbags Belt Bag and a fun pair of sneakers.

Elevated

Perfect for work or an evening you might need a light layer (looking at you cool summer nights), adding a crisp white shirt always adds an element of classic elegance. I love a slouchy shirt for the summer because it gives a little coverage while maintaining the integrity of the dress. I’ve chosen to tie the corners of the shirt so that it falls off my shoulder a bit, but if you’re in a professional setting, you may choose to tie the corners and button a couple of buttons, creating a layered nod to a shirt and skirt look. I’ve finished the outfit with a chunky dad sandal and a pop of red in the purse for visual interest.

Night Out

Who knew a black cotton dress could do so much? When we typically see cotton or linen sun dresses in our closets we often go straight to casual because well, these fabrics tend to give off a more relaxed feel, however, that does not mean it isn’t possible to play with accessories and make this dress the perfect piece for a night out with friends or someone you love. Achieving this kind of look is all about accessories! I recommend playing with a bigger earring and jewelry stacks for your neck and wrist. This Slim Doune Hoop from JENNY BIRD is always my go-to night out hoop. I’ve finished this look with a gold sandal and gold clutch to ensure cohesion with the jewelry picks, adding a hint of sparkle.
