How We’re Celebrating Self-Love All Month Long

Hi friends, and welcome back to AHS post-holiday craziness! I don’t know about you, but we’re still recouping from the rich food, increased socializing, abundant alcohol and lack of sleep and frankly, might still be for the remainder of the month. This makes January the perfect month to focus on yourself, and the love and care that you need to feel good as you move through 2025. So with that in mind, Nicole and I are sharing with you the ways we’re showing ourselves love physically, emotionally and mentally all month long.

Physically

Steph: During colder months like January, it’s very easy to stay cooped up in the warm house (especially if you work from home) and not go outside until Spring. Although that may be tempting, I need to make sure I’m getting outside consistently. The cold air is refreshing and keeps me feeling alert and energized throughout my day. I’m grateful for a dog because he has to get his walks in, just like I need to get my steps in, in fact some days, my favourite cap to the day is our walk. Additionally, prioritizing moving my body is how I show my physical self-love, even if it’s a 25-minute online pilates class, every little bit makes a difference and keeps me feeling good.

Nicole: When a new year hits it’s easy to get swept into the whole new year, new you deal, so instead of getting drawn in with over-ambitious goals I wanted to work on perfecting habits that I already have in place including trying to be active consistently. Whether it be heading to the gym, practicing yoga or even simply using my standing desk, I am excited to see how to continue including movement into my every day.

Emotionally

S: There are two things I do to celebrate and love myself emotionally. The first is therapy. You have to talk stuff out, rant, identify patterns and strive for better. While it can be difficult, it’s so worth it to talk things through and if you’re anything like me, you’ll always feel a little bit lighter once your session is over.

I also make a point of booking time with friends. Good friends always fill my cup in the best possible way, whether it’s with a good laugh, reminiscing on old memories, supporting each other through challenging chapters or yapping over brunch. I am so grateful for these friendships and the radiant positivity and kindness that comes from them.

N: It can be difficult to keep well in the cold months, but I’m trying to remember that winter is a time for slowing down and reflecting. This is why I’m looking forward to continuing my therapy practice and taking extra space to journal, meditate, take time in nature, be creative and everything else I need to do to keep my wellness a top priority. In turn, I am also trying to remember that it’s ok to get extra rest right now, there’s a reason we feel the pull to hibernate, so embracing it is key!

Mentally

S: While I love my time with friends, I also really need solitude, time alone and breaks throughout my day to feel mentally my best. I show myself love mentally by setting boundaries for myself in terms of how much social I have on my calendar in a given month and prioritizing time that is just mine. Introverted-extrovert over here! I need both to be my best self!

N: I’ve realized over the years that I have a bad habit that I need to break. When I complete a task, I move on to the next project or goal without taking a moment to reflect and appreciate what I’ve accomplished. This month, and I hope each one ahead, I want to change this by celebrating my wins, whether it be celebrating with those I love, getting myself a small treat, or even just sitting in the feeling of pride for a job well done. There’s something to be said for acknowledging and appreciating all that you do not only for others but also for yourself, so I encourage all to take the space to celebrate!
