Transitioning Your Home From Spring to Summer

It’s that time of year again and I find myself excited to see how we can transition our space to meet the new warmer season. Summer is often associated with this feeling of lightness and refreshed interiors, including breezy fabrics and bright colours. Although I dream of having a seasonal budget to redo our living room, I instead have to get creative (like most) on how to reset and refresh the space to make it feel welcoming and inviting in warmer weather. Today I’m sharing the ways I like to bring our home to meet the latest season of warm breezes, chilled cocktails and candle-lit nights, let’s dive in!

Add Mirrors

Though this trick is good for any time of year, I love to add reflective surfaces to my space in warmer weather as it helps make spaces feel brighter and bigger. Living in a basement my husband and I constantly have to battle dark corners and low lighting so finding ways to add some light and reflection without turning on the “big light” is a must. Here I’ve hung a beautiful vintage mirror sconce that houses a tealight, making it the perfect little mood-lighting moment on those warm nights.

Shift Your Furniture

I honestly wonder if I will ever run out of ways to move our furniture around in this apartment, but once again I felt inspired to meet my greatest challenge yet. I decided to set up our living room in the alcove of windows, where frankly no living room has any business being based on this area’s small footprint and curved walls making it almost impossible to create a cohesive area with all of our furniture. However, after a big shuffle, and lots of adjustments we have finally managed to put our couch on this curved wall, making it my new favourite spot to perch and sip coffee in the golden mornings of summer. Shifting and shuffling furniture can do wonders in changing how the space feels when it comes to size and scope, plus it’s the perfect time to move around your plants, fluff pillows, and give your space an overall revamp.

Add Flowers Wherever You Can!

It is no secret that I love putting fresh-cut flowers in our home whenever I can. In fact, I’ve gotten into a habit of picking them up when I’m at our fruit stand picking up produce. I like that we’re regularly buying local flowers from a small business, although I will say grocery-store flowers work in a pinch. Having something fresh and intentional, especially in a living room makes the space feel bright, cheery and cared for, the perfect combination while staying cool and enjoying your home on warmer days.
