Creating Your Very Own Bachelorette Pad

As I look forward to a new chapter, with a new space on the horizon, I find myself reflecting on my past two and a half years in this space and everything that it has meant to me. This was a space where I believe I truly came into my own. I found great comfort in the walls around me, knowing that even after a difficult day I had a safe haven to escape to that was all my own.

If you remember, after a past relationship ended, I began a single girl sabbatical. In this time I found myself obsessed with building out my home, the space I once shared with another, and making it all my own. I was determined to fall in love with it rather than be reminded of everything that took place previously, by filling it with furniture and decor that brought me joy, washing away any difficult memories that were originally attached to the condo. As you know, Nicole was a big part in helping me do this, especially with the gallery wall in my living room. Currently, I am soaking up every last moment here, knowing my time in this apartment will soon come to an end, so I want to share with you my tips for creating your very own bachelorette pad to provide you great joy and comfort in your everyday.

Colour Pallet

The first place I started was deciding on a colour pallet. I thought about several different pallets before really landing and leaning into a combination of blues, blushes, pinks, teals, golds, white and wood. I resisted the pinks for a while for fear my home would be too girly, but at a certain point, I decided to just lean in. It was always a part of the pallets I gravitated towards so I decided to just go with what I was finding myself attracted to for the space. Interestingly, the white boho pillow in my living room is really what influenced the pallet of my home. Similarly, the blanket under my duvet, a light cotton with a floral print, is what I first found to build the bedroom around. Sometimes I think the best way to determine a pallet for a space is by finding a piece you absolutely love and pulling colours from it. At least this is what I’ve found to work for me!

Quality Pieces

Once I knew what I wanted my pallet to be, I did a little updating with some of my bigger furniture pieces that needed replacing. My bed is an example of this. Previously I was still in my university double bed that had been with me through my early twenties. Needless to say, she needed to be replaced! In looking for a new bed I focused on finding a bedframe that offered comfort and quality, a piece I would have for years to come and that I would be excited to go to sleep in every night. Investing in this quality piece was a must, especially seeing as we spend half our lives sleeping! When I was living the double bed life I had fabric drawers that lived underneath, not my ideal. So when I graduated to a bigger bed, it was time to move on to a new dresser too! I chose this rich chocolate brown dresser with gold handles to ensure it added some depth to the room. Updating my bedroom space really made me feel like a full-fledged adult, which made me love being in my bedroom space.

Aesthetic that Matches YOUR Style

Emphasis on YOUR style. When I was first thinking about creating my little bachelorette pad, I thought it should be a neutral space that wasn’t too girly. I somehow got it in my mind that if my apartment had too many feminine details, a man wouldn’t want to be in the space with me or might feel intimidated by it. Let me tell you that that was the wrong attitude to have! The right guy will not care about how much pink or floral prints reside in your home. He’s there for you, remember that. This is your home and you should love every piece of decor, every pillow, rug, blanket, and picture you put in it because it’s just that, yours, and no one else’s. Your home should absolutely emulate and represent your aesthetic and style, and I assure you that if you successfully do that, your home will become the bachelorette retreat you’ve always dreamed of.
