How to Add Romance to Your Space Feb 7 Written By Nicole Campbell Romance is in the air, and what better way to add zest to your every day than by integrating it into your space? Though it can seem daunting, I (Nicole) am here to help ease your aching heart and show you some simple ways to create an intimate atmosphere for you and your favourite person. Step 1: Create a Moody Pallet Nothing says romance like a set of colours that provide an element of surprise and allure. Often based in darker, more earthy tones, pallets can be established as moody often by ensuring a level of balance so the room doesn’t seem too light or too dark. Look around your given room and see what neutral colour is most present. If it’s white you’ll be able to add in some darker tones like deep red and rich green. If your neutral is already on the darker side like black or brown, layering in a few lighter colours like cream and blush pink will help balance out the room. For my living room, I’ve added elements of forest green, bright red and some floral patterns to add an aspect of surprise. Whatever your starting point is, just remember that balance is the true foundation of a romantic colour scheme. Step 2: Luxurious Textures Whether it’s a velvet throw blanket or an extra soft cushion sham, adding elements of texture is a must! High texture elevates a sense of drama and visual interest in your room, as we can often see in some of the world’s most dramatic venues, including live theatre stages, set with the classic red velvet curtain. There is something so engaging about fabric that seems to have depth and a life of its own, so adding luxurious textures is the perfect way to captivate your audience. Step 3: Aesthetic Details In every romance, big or small, the little actions and intentions show through most. Keep that in mind when putting your romantic space together, considering what elements might add value to your evening, whether it’s a playful game of chess, or indulgence in a sweet treat. I also always like to include flowers where I can to show that extra effort to my favourite person. All of these pieces together create a demonstration of your attention to detail and ensure your space looks full and ready to be enjoyed. Step 4: Low Lighting A classic element to all romantic locals, low lighting makes sure everyone looks their best and provides an atmosphere of relaxation. Including candlelight is a great option and a true classic, which you can take a step further with a coloured taper for a more elegant approach. You can also integrate low lighting with lamps on the floor or twinkle lights if that matches your vibe. All in all, keep your overhead lights off and let your table lamps and tea lights do the work.
