Holiday Decor On A Budget Dec 9 Written By Nicole Campbell The holidays have arrived and no sooner did we hit December 1st was everyone pulling out their decor, unearthing it from its annual hibernation. That being said, not everyone has a stash of meaningful decor living in the back of their basement (let alone a basement). So if you’re starting from scratch or not sure how much you want to invest in your annual holiday moment, we’re here with a few ideas to help you make holiday style a little lighter on your budget. Define What “Holiday” Looks Like For YouThe ideal holiday aesthetic can look a little different to everyone, to some, it’s glittering white everything to reflect the snow outside with lots of throw blankets and fluffy cushions, to others it looks like crimson red, and crushed green velvet for that classic vintage vibe with a warm tree glow. Whatever it looks like, keep that image in your mind and try to pull a few colours from those holiday memories (or your Pinterest board), this will be your starting point for creating a simple pallet to play within your home. Decide What Pallet Works With Your HomeNow that you’ve got an idea of where you’re headed on your holiday decor adventure, it’s time to reflect on the colours you already have in your home and if those two pallets can work together. For example, we have a green couch which luckily plays into classic holiday colours relatively easily, however, if you have a bright orange couch, perhaps going with a more neutral pallet is more realistic. Look At What You Have To Capture That FeelingOften with holiday decor, we get a little caught up in what we “should” have vs what we need. Not everyone will want or have the space for a Christmas tree (if that’s what you’re celebrating) so perhaps finding a more creative solution like a mini tree, or even a tree-shaped outline on the wall can be just the thing. Regardless of “should”, think of what you really need to make it feel cozy in your space. Perhaps it’s a few taper candles, some extra throw blankets and a few extra cushions. Whatever that dream is, try to capture it using as much as you already have. It might not be your classic holiday vibe but it will feel like your own. Craft Paper & Ribbon Are Your FriendsI truly believe craft paper and ribbon are two of the most versatile supplies ever made and they are both incredibly affordable! Now that you have a few more home items in place you can create a few decorations that will make it all feel more festive. I love to create as much as possible with paper and ribbon from garlands to wrapping gifts. Because paper is a neutral base and ribbon comes in every colour, you can add to it as much as you like. The sky is the limit with these items, so have fun! Get Outside Whether you’re going to your local greenhouse or asking about trimmings from a tree farm, do what you can to get your hands on some greenery. We love including as much of the outside as we can to help ensure the home feels fresh and lively. If this means a real tree for you then go right ahead, but know it doesn’t have to be that drastic. Even a few sprigs in a vase can do wonders for your space and make it feel more wintery. Invest In What Matters All in all, when it comes to holiday decor, we include it in our home to remind us of how lovely this time of year can be. We all get caught up in the frenzy of buying gifts to fill what sometimes feels like an obligation, but the point of this season is to reflect on your relationships and show appreciation for those you love, including yourself. So if you want to invest in a few key things that will bring out the holiday magic in your space, then go ahead, but only bring in what will add value in making your holidays feel more special.Want more interior inspiration?
