5 Ways To Keep Joy In Your Home After The Holidays

After what feels like a whirlwind of parties, time with loved ones and treats galore, the feeling of knowing it will be another full year until this joyous whimsy is back in our lives can be a daunting one. I (Nicole) have always felt that January was a vacant, less sparkly month after all the holiday decor is put away, leaving the feeling as if something is missing. So I wanted to take a moment to share some ways I like to bring joy into my home to help our long cold months of winter feel just as magical after the holidays are over.

Keep the intentionality

When my husband and I  pull out our holiday decor at the beginning of December I am always buzzing with ideas on where to put each item I excavate from our boxes. All of a sudden I have new beautiful things to style! Once I have put those items safely away in the new year I like to use that same intention with my annual decor pieces. Taking the time to hang and place them with care, treating them just as special as any holiday baubles.

Align to your new goals (or the same ones)

As the new year roles in we often have a few new objectives or goals we want to start in order to challenge ourselves to learn and grow. Nothing makes it more difficult to start a new hobby than a space that isn’t set for it. So, I encourage you to set your stage in supporting your unique goals, whether it be carving out a small meditation corner, enough floor space to roll out a Yoga mat, or a new refresh to your home office. Whatever you’re hoping to get out of the new year, take the time to set yourself up for success by making sure your space is set up to support you and your goals.

Embracing Scent

One of the most characteristic things about the holidays is the scents in the air. I often have candles going all December long and impulsively feel like that holiday magic needs to be put away as the calendar turns a new page. Still, there is something so calming and heartwarming about the power of scent. So keep your candles out, or even start up your diffuser if you prefer, and keep the beautiful scents going all winter long. Perhaps it’s even a great opportunity to get some new candles with a fresh scent for the fresh new year!

Refresh your small displays and shuffle the furniture

As you start to look at how you can optimize your space for your goals, take some time to consider if there are other parts of your home that could use a refresh as well. There is something so rejuvenating about moving your furniture and decor around, helping your space feel like new again. So give yourself the gift of newness by hitting the refresh button on your interiors.

Go analog

The holidays in my household are when we go back to our roots and try to spend less time on our technology, so why not bring that to the new year? Turn off the Netflix, grab a book and a hot beverage and sit by the candlelight. It is something special, to intentionally disconnect, so take this time to recharge and enjoy a distraction-free moment.
