Galentine's Day: How to Make Vintage Valentines for Your Gals
When it comes to Galentine's Day, we’ve celebrated in lots of different ways, from small-scale celebrations to full-on brunches with crafts. This year, we couldn’t make a full event happen but what better way to ensure we share the love with women in our life just the same than with the written word, enter the old-school Valentine turned Galentine! Today we share how we made these vintage-inspired Galentine's so you can do the same for the women in your life!
Create A Vibe
We remember fondly the days of elementary school when the craft of the day would be making valentines for everyone in your class. We wanted to give the same creative energy to these valentines, making each unique and one-of-a-kind, all within the same classic, pink, red and white pallet with a little purple thrown in for a good time!
Get Your Supplies
Think construction paper, stickers and all the ribbon I could pull from my craft drawer. We also had felt stickers, cookie cutters for tracing and a solid cardstock to use as our base. What’s nice about this kind of craft is that a lot of these elements are inexpensive but when used well can pack a punch. And don’t forget, if you’re mailing any Galentines, to grab some envelopes and stamps too!
Layering is Caring
When it comes to making valentines there are two routes you can go, the classic folded card with fun elements on the front and inside, or the postcard style with the front and back. What’s funny is that, of course, I went with one and Stephanie with the other and they both turned out great because of the key aspect of any valentine, layering. Start with your base card stock and put smaller paper inserts inside or on top to give the Galentine dimension, and don’t go light on the stickers and ribbon, this is a classic Valentine after all, just make sure they still fit in your envelopes when you’re done!
Go With the Flow
At the end of the day this is meant to be a fun act of love for the people you care about so style your valentines for your audience and have fun with it. Stephanie went wild with stickers and pop-ups inside, while I on the other hand did stylized graphics and hand-tied ribbon bows. There are no wrong answers, only lovely notes of appreciation for the women in your life, so have fun and happy Galentine's Day!
