Hosting a Pumpkin Petal Party
I love any excuse to get friends together, especially when it means creating something fun to mark the season. It brings my heart so much joy to spend time together, catch up (usually over food and drinks) and often flex our creative muscles with a little crafting moment. This fall, I wanted to bring some of my girlfriends together to have some fun decorating pumpkins. Between paint and petals, we had a blast creating something fun and festive, so today I’m sharing how you too can host a pumpkin petal party!
Gather Supplies
In preparation for your petal party, it’s important to get your desired supplies. This means really deciding how you want to decorate. Are you painting? Carving maybe? Figuring out the how you want to go about your project makes shopping that much easier. My instagram was flooded with reels of friends mod podging pressed flowers to pumpkin, so I knew I wanted to give this a try because I loved the look. Additionally, I wanted to provide options if people weren’t as passionate about the petals as I was, so painting also became an option for my girlies. I found a great selection of pressed flowers and acrylic paint markers on amazon, and of course I couldn’t forget mod podge and paint brushes!
Pick Your Pumpkins
My pumpkin petal party was BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin) but I also wanted to make sure I had extra incase anyone forgot. I got a variety of shapes and sizes, as well as some orange and some white.
Once at the party, it’s a good idea to choose your pumpkin based on what you’re hoping to create on your gourd canvas. For example we found the pressed flowers worked slightly more effectively on slightly larger pumpkins because there would be less curves and grooves, making it easier for them to stick.
Food and Beverage
For any party, you always have to think about food and drink! This was an afternoon party, so I wanted something simple but delicious, enter charcuterie! A mix of different cheeses, crackers, meats, fruits, veggies and spreads make for the perfect board. Additionally, I wanted a fun bevie to be available, so I made a Fall version of a Mimosa, including prosecco, pomegranate cherry juice and pomegranate seeds, a moody older sister of the Mimosa if you will. Simple yet festive!
Embrace Creativity
Have fun with this project! We spend so much of our adult lives focused on the serious, difficult parts so while you’re decorating your pumpkin, embrace your inner child and let the creativity flow. There are no rules with what you can create so don’t overthink it, it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to feel fun!
