The Brooch Approach
For a long time now I’ve been a lover of brooches. Acting as a subtle or statement-making add-on to any look, whether it lands on a cozy coat or a professional blazer, it always catches the eye and results in conversational compliments. I am so excited to say that brooches aren’t just a trinket in your Gran’s jewelry box right now, they’re having a real moment in the fashion world, maybe you’re seeing celebrities rocking them on the red carpet, or perhaps you’ve noticed colleagues beginning to add them to their work attire. With this surge of uniquely dainty pieces, I wanted to create a how-to guide for anyone hoping to add a brooch moment to their style. Welcome to the brooch approach!
The Singular Brooch
For someone looking to stay current with their style, but not dive head-first into trendiness, I recommend going simple with a singular brooch. Find one that stands out on its own without overpowering an outfit. I love looking for brooches at vintage shops because you can find something special without breaking the bank, or perhaps your mom might have an heirloom piece that you can add for a touch of sentimental value. A singular brooch approach is effortless for the person who just wants to dip their toe.
The Statement Brooch
Perfect for the person who wants to make a splash and be a little different with their style, letting the world know they’re unique and fashion-forward, I recommend a statement brooch. This brooch will likely be bigger in size and really draw the attention of onlookers. Personally, I’m a big fan of a flower brooch to make a statement as it tends to be a bigger piece, however, because it’s usually made of fabric rather than metal, it gives the feeling of light airiness to balance the bold accessory.
The Cluster of Brooches
For the true style daredevil, I bring you the cluster of brooches! This is something you can really have fun with if you’re someone who has a collection of brooches sitting in your jewelry box. You’ll definitely want to choose a focal point brooch, the one at the centre of it all to base your cluster around. Remember, don’t be afraid to go wild if it suits you, creating a cluster that feels balanced with different sizes, shapes and colours. If you want to go all in you might as well make it feel uniquely yours, and at the end of the day, we put clothes on every day, you might as well have fun with it!
