Spice up your life: Our Favourite Pumpkin Spice Syrup Recipe

With fall in full swing, nothing makes a chilly afternoon feel more cozy and delightful than a warm drink paired with a good book. We chatted with my husband Ryan, who we refer to as our local barista, about creating a seasonal treat we could enjoy and share with our community. And he hooked us up by showing us how to make Pumpkin Spice Syrup so you can have this treat at home, whether as a traditional Pumpkin Spice Latte or even used as part of a festive Autumn cocktail. Whatever your fancy, here is how to make this magical witch’s brew.

What you’ll need

-Measuring Cups

-Measuring Spoons

-A Saucepan

-A Stirring Utensil

-A Heat-Resistant Container

-A Coffee-making apparatus of your choosing (espresso machine, french press, etc.)

The Ingredients

1 cup of water

1 cup of white sugar

1 cup of barista oat milk

1.5 tablespoons brown sugar

1/2 can of pumpkin puree

1 tablespoon of pumpkin spice

1/2 teaspoon of allspice

The Process

Step 1. Put your saucepan on medium heat, pouring in your cup of water until it is simmering.

Step 2. Add your cup of white sugar, continuing to stir until the granulated sugar has dissipated into the water creating a simple syrup.

Step 3. Add your Oatmilk to the saucepan*

*Note*: A lot of recipes use condensed milk but we thought this would be a nice alternative option, as it also makes the recipe vegan!

Step 4: Add your 1.5 Tablespoons of brown sugar, and keep stirring until dissipated.

Step 5. Add your pumpkin puree, stirring (or whisking if you have) until any clumps are gone and the puree has been integrated.

Step 6. Add your tablespoon of Pumpkin Spice, stirring until blended then do the same with your Allspice.*

*Note*: Most recipes don’t ask for allspice but we thought it would be a welcome addition, add to your taste!

Step 7. Keep stirring your mixture until smooth. Once ready, pour into a heat-resistant container (we used an old Bodum French Press) and let cool on the counter for 10-15 minutes, then put in the fridge.

Now you can use your magical syrup however you like! As you can see we are partial to espresso in our house and Ryan put together some incredible pumpkin spice lattes right here at home! We found the syrup kept for approximately a week so make sure to use it up and take in those magical flavours all week long.

Whether you decide to have it in coffee or try out using it as a base in a cocktail (we’re big fans of cold-brew cocktails that add a little coffee flair), this is the perfect treat to enjoy on your own or with someone special. So grab a cup, stay cozy and enjoy this special season!
